Ingredients
Scale
2 lbs chicken wings (flats and drumettes)
1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
Instructions
Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispiness.
In a medium bowl, combine the baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper to create the dry rub.
Toss the dry wings thoroughly with the dry rub mixture until every piece is evenly coated.
Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius) for 5 minutes.
Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap. Work in batches if necessary.
Air fry for 18 minutes.
Flip the wings. Increase the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until the skin is golden brown and crispy.
Remove the wings from the air fryer and immediately place them in a clean bowl.
Pour the BBQ sauce over the hot wings and toss gently to coat evenly.
Serve immediately.
Notes
For the crispiest results, do not skip the baking powder in the dry rub.
If you prefer saucier wings, toss them in the sauce immediately after cooking. If you want the sauce to caramelize slightly, return the sauced wings to the air fryer for 1 to 2 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit before serving.
To make cleanup easier, line the bottom of your air fryer basket with a perforated parchment paper liner designed for air fryers.
