Ingredients
Scale
8 slices thick bread (like brioche or challah), cut into 1-inch cubes
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for batter)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for batter)
1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
Cooking spray (oil or butter flavor)
Instructions
In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon sugar until well combined. This is your batter.
In a separate small bowl, mix the 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon for the coating.
Dip the bread cubes into the batter, turning to coat all sides. Let excess batter drip off briefly. Do not let them soak too long.
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
Place the battered bread cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary. Do not overcrowd the basket.
Lightly spray the tops of the bread cubes with cooking spray.
Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping the cubes halfway through the cooking time.
Once cooked through and golden brown and crispy, immediately remove the bites from the air fryer.
Toss the hot bites gently in the cinnamon-sugar coating until evenly covered.
Serve immediately with maple syrup or your preferred dipping sauce.
Notes
For extra crispiness, ensure your bread is slightly stale before starting.
If you prefer a thicker coating, you can dip the battered cubes a second time before air frying.
You can prepare the cinnamon-sugar coating mixture ahead of time.
