Make crispy, flavorful lemon pepper chicken wings using your air fryer. This recipe provides simple steps for perfectly cooked wings without deep frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon pepper seasoning blend (or more to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for extra crispness)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is important for crisp skin.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the dry wings with the baking powder, salt, and black pepper. The baking powder helps draw out moisture and promotes crisping.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius) for 5 minutes.
  4. If using, lightly toss the seasoned wings with the olive oil.
  5. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry for 20 minutes at 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius).
  7. Flip the wings and increase the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Cook for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius) and the skin is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the wings from the air fryer. Immediately place them in a clean bowl.
  9. Sprinkle the lemon pepper seasoning blend, garlic powder, and onion powder over the hot wings. Toss gently until the wings are evenly coated.
  10. Serve immediately. The seasoning adheres best when tossed while the wings are hot.

Notes

  • For the crispiest results, ensure your wings are very dry before seasoning.
  • Do not skip the initial lower temperature cooking phase; this renders the fat before the high heat crisps the skin.
  • If you prefer a saucier wing, toss the cooked wings in melted butter mixed with extra lemon pepper seasoning after coating them.
