Enjoy a healthier take on a classic with these oven-baked fish and chips. Crispy fish fillets coated in seasoned breadcrumbs are paired with golden potato wedges for a satisfying meal with less oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large potatoes, cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 large white fish fillets (such as cod or haddock)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup beer (lager or ale)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, toss potato wedges with olive oil, paprika, salt, and pepper. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the potatoes for 20 minutes.
  4. While the potatoes bake, prepare the fish. In a shallow dish, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper.
  5. In another shallow dish, whisk together the egg and beer.
  6. In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  7. Dip each fish fillet first into the flour mixture, then into the egg-beer mixture, and finally coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs.
  8. After 20 minutes, flip the potato wedges and add the breaded fish fillets to the baking sheet with the potatoes.
  9. Continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the coating is golden brown and crispy, and the potatoes are tender.

Notes

  • For extra crispy fish, ensure the panko breadcrumbs are evenly distributed.
  • You can add your favorite seasonings to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite sauces like tartar sauce or ketchup.
