Make this simple, no-fuss cherry dump cake using only three ingredients for a quick dessert with a buttery, crisp topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the entire can of cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Do not drain the filling.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the cherry layer. Do not mix the cake mix into the cherries.
  4. If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans over the dry cake mix layer.
  5. Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface of the cake mix, covering as much of the dry mix as possible.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbling around the edges.
  7. Let the cake cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer topping, use brown sugar cake mix instead of yellow cake mix.
  • If you prefer a softer topping, use only 3/4 cup of butter instead of 1 cup.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for a classic cobbler-like texture.
