Make quick, cake-style donuts in your air fryer and coat them in a classic cinnamon sugar mixture for a simple, non-fried treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more for coating
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, for coating
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, 2 tablespoons melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix the batter.
  4. Lightly spray your donut pan or molds with cooking spray. Fill each mold about two-thirds full with batter.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 350F (175C) for 3 minutes.
  6. Carefully place the filled donut molds into the air fryer basket. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. While the donuts cook, prepare the coating: In a shallow dish, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon thoroughly.
  8. Remove the cooked donuts from the air fryer and let them cool in the molds for 2 minutes.
  9. Gently remove the warm donuts from the molds. Brush the tops and bottoms of each warm donut with a small amount of melted butter.
  10. Immediately dip or roll each buttered donut into the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  11. Serve the donuts warm.

Notes

  • If you do not have donut molds, you can cut circles from rolled-out dough, but ensure the pieces are small enough to fit comfortably in your air fryer basket without touching the sides.
  • For best results, coat the donuts while they are still warm so the butter melts slightly and the sugar adheres well.
  • If your air fryer basket is large, you may need to cook the donuts in batches to maintain proper air circulation.
