Make the popular Garlic Parmesan Broccoli side dish from Longhorn Steakhouse at home using this simple recipe that replicates the restaurant’s savory flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon water (for steaming)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the broccoli: Place the broccoli florets in a microwave-safe bowl with 1 tablespoon of water. Cover the bowl loosely and microwave on high for 3 to 4 minutes until the broccoli is tender-crisp. Drain any excess water immediately.
  2. Make the sauce: In a small skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Stir in the heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and slightly thickened.
  5. Add the drained, cooked broccoli to the skillet with the sauce. Toss gently to coat all the florets evenly.
  6. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, allowing the broccoli to absorb the sauce.
  7. Transfer the broccoli to a serving dish. Sprinkle with extra grated Parmesan cheese before serving hot.

Notes

  • For a more authentic texture, steam the broccoli on the stovetop instead of microwaving. Use a steamer basket over boiling water for 5 minutes.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best melting quality and flavor in the sauce. Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that affect creaminess.
  • If you prefer a richer sauce, substitute half-and-half for the heavy cream.
