- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon orange zest (from about 2 oranges)
- 1/2 cup dried sweetened cranberries
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
- For the Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar
- For the Glaze: 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Stir in the orange zest, dried cranberries, and white chocolate chips, if using.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. The centers should still look slightly soft for a chewy texture.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Add more juice, one teaspoon at a time, if the glaze is too thick.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies. Let the glaze set before serving or storing.
Notes
- For a slice-and-bake option, form the dough into logs, wrap them in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 2 hours before slicing and baking.
- If you prefer a less sweet cookie, reduce the granulated sugar by 1/4 cup.
- Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
