Ingredients
Scale
2 oz Blanco Tequila
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
0.75 oz Orange Liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
0.5 oz Agave Nectar or Simple Syrup
3 thin slices Fresh Jalapeño
Lime wedge for rimming
Coarse salt or Tajin for rim
Ice
Instructions
Prepare the glass rim by rubbing a lime wedge around the edge of a rocks glass. Roll the rim in coarse salt or Tajin on a small plate.
Place the three jalapeño slices into a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle the jalapeño slices to release their oils and heat. Do not over-muddle, as this can release bitter seeds.
Add the tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave nectar to the shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice.
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously until the outside is well-chilled, about 15 to 20 seconds.
Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice.
Double strain the mixture from the shaker into the prepared glass to remove jalapeño pieces.
Garnish with a lime wheel or a thin slice of jalapeño.
Notes
Adjust the number of jalapeño slices based on your preferred spice level. Start with two for a mild kick.
For a sweeter drink, increase the agave nectar to 0.75 oz.
Blanco (silver) tequila works best as its clean flavor lets the lime and jalapeño shine.
If you prefer a less spicy drink, remove the seeds from the jalapeño before muddling.
