You need this easy, creamy green bean casserole recipe! It is the perfect traditional Thanksgiving side dish, topped with crispy fried onions for that satisfying crunch everyone loves.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
  • 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 1.5-quart baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper until smooth.
  3. Stir in the drained green beans and 1/2 cup of the crispy fried onions. Mix everything until it is combined well.
  4. Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. Remove the dish from the oven. Sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup of crispy fried onions over the top.
  7. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
  8. Let it stand for a few minutes before you serve it.

Notes

  • You can make this ahead! Assemble the casserole (without the topping) up to one day in advance. Cover it and refrigerate. Add 10 minutes to the initial baking time if baking straight from the fridge. Add the topping right before the final bake.
  • For a Southern green bean casserole twist, stir in 1/2 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese with the green beans in Step 3.
  • If you want to try an air fryer green bean casserole, bake in an oven-safe dish at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes, then top with onions and air fry at 350 degrees F for 3-5 minutes until brown.
