Follow this recipe to make flavorful honey garlic shrimp on the grill. The shrimp cooks quickly and gets a sticky, sweet, and savory glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before use.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, ginger, black pepper, and lemon juice to create the marinade.
  3. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the marinade. Toss gently to coat completely. Let the shrimp marinate for 15 to 20 minutes. Do not marinate longer than 30 minutes, as the acid can start to cook the shrimp.
  4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400 degrees Fahrenheit). Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
  5. Thread the marinated shrimp onto the prepared skewers, leaving a small space between each piece.
  6. Place the skewers directly on the hot grill grates. Grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side.
  7. During the last minute of cooking, brush any remaining marinade over the shrimp to build a thicker glaze.
  8. Remove the shrimp from the grill when they turn pink and opaque. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best results, use large shrimp (21/25 count or larger) as they are less likely to overcook quickly on the grill.
  • If you prefer, you can skip the skewers and place the shrimp directly on a grill basket or a piece of foil placed on the grates.
  • Serve this shrimp with grilled asparagus or white rice.
