Ingredients
Scale
2 thick-cut ham steaks (about 3/4 inch thick)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
Pat the ham steaks dry using paper towels. This helps the glaze adhere better.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet (cast iron works well) over medium heat until shimmering.
Place the ham steaks in the hot skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until they develop a nice brown crust.
While the ham cooks, whisk together the honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper in a small bowl to create the glaze.
Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour the prepared glaze mixture evenly over the ham steaks in the skillet.
Allow the glaze to bubble gently. Use a spoon to baste the glaze over the top of the steaks continuously for 1 to 2 minutes.
Flip the steaks once more. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes, basting constantly, until the glaze thickens and coats the ham completely. Do not let the sugar burn.
Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 3 minutes before serving immediately.
Notes
Use ham steaks cut from cured, pre-cooked ham. If your ham is very salty, you may skip adding extra salt to the glaze.
For a thicker glaze, let the remaining sauce in the pan simmer for an extra minute after removing the ham, stirring constantly.
Thick-cut steaks (3/4 inch) prevent overcooking when glazing. Thin steaks cook too fast.
