A recipe for a refreshing cold beverage combining tart hibiscus tea, sweet strawberries, and tangy lemonade.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers (flor de Jamaica)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, halved
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 3 cups prepared lemonade (store-bought or homemade)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Remove the water from the heat and add the dried hibiscus flowers. Steep for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain the hibiscus tea into a separate container, discarding the flowers. You should have about 3.5 cups of strong tea.
  4. While the tea is still warm, add the sugar and stir until completely dissolved.
  5. Add the halved strawberries to the warm, sweetened tea. Let the strawberries infuse for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Strain the strawberry-infused tea mixture, pressing gently on the strawberries to extract flavor. Discard the strawberries.
  7. In a large pitcher, combine the strawberry-hibiscus tea concentrate, fresh lemon juice, and prepared lemonade. Stir well.
  8. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  9. To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled tea lemonade over the ice.

Notes

  • For a stronger strawberry flavor, mash the strawberries slightly before adding them to the warm tea.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar based on the tartness of your lemonade.
  • You can substitute honey or agave nectar for granulated sugar.
