Ingredients
Scale
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, and black pepper until the sugar dissolves. This is your DIY tuna steak marinade base.
Place your tuna steaks in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the tuna, ensuring both sides are coated.
Marinate the tuna for 15 to 30 minutes. Do not marinate longer than 30 minutes, especially for ahi tuna, as the acid can start to change the texture.
Remove the tuna from the marinade and pat the surface dry with paper towels before cooking. Discard the remaining marinade.
Sear or grill the tuna steaks to your desired doneness.
Notes
For a spicy variation, add 1/2 teaspoon of sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade mixture.
If you are grilling tuna steak marinade options, make sure your grill grates are clean and oiled to prevent sticking.
Use fresh lime juice for the best acid balance in this fish marinade.
