Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Place sliced apples in the slow cooker.
  2. Add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Stir to combine.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours, until apples are very tender.
  4. Remove the lid and continue to cook on low for another 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the butter has thickened to your desired consistency.
  5. Mash the apples with a potato masher or use an immersion blender for a smoother texture.
  6. Cool completely before storing in airtight containers in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Any variety of apples can be used, but a mix of sweet and tart apples yields the best flavor.
  • Adjust spices to your preference.
  • For a thicker butter, cook uncovered for an additional hour or two.
